Role Summary:

We are seeking a talented lawyer to join our Corporate & Commercial Team.  As the oldest law firm in Jersey, we have well-established corporate, trust and commercial practices, together with banking and finance, and advise local and international clients (both private and institutional), as well as professional intermediaries.  The successful candidate will undertake a diverse practice that principally focuses on corporate law, trust law and commercial law, but which will also entail banking and finance transactions, and regulatory advice and other non-contentious transactional and advisory matters.

Key Responsibilities: 

The successful candidate will give our clients clear and focused advice and will be expected to work with the wider team on larger-scale transactions whilst managing their own files.  The candidate will also take part in the business development activities of the department and the wider firm.

In particular, the candidate will need to:

·         take responsibility for managing files and transactions, including resolving issues that arise during transactions and advisory matters

·         demonstrate initiative in identifying key issues

·         work collaboratively with other members of the team

·         accept assignments delegated from Partners and senior fee earners and report efficiently to the Partners and/or senior fee earners as required

·         give technically accurate advice to clients

·         demonstrate good commercial awareness relevant to our clients’ differing objectives and needs

·         work in compliance with the firm’s procedures, including (without limitation) anti-money laundering rules and prompt and accurate time-recording

·         communicate clearly and efficiently with clients on all aspects of a matter, particularly with regard to the scope of work, the anticipated costs and disbursements, progress during the matter and any issues that arise (or may arise)

·         manage different work-streams for multiple clients

·         preserve and enhance existing client relationships of the firm

·         undertake business development activities for the firm, both individually and in conjunction with colleagues

·         mentor and supervise junior members of the team as and when required

Skills, knowledge, competencies and expertise:

We are seeking a qualified lawyer of up to 3 years’ PQE with experience in the corporate and/or commercial departments, and/or the banking and finance teams, and/or the trust and private client departments of local or external reputable law firms.

The successful candidate will need to bring excellent technical skill and knowledge, good communication skills and a strong teamwork ethic.
