The Bailiff seeks to appoint an Assistant Magistrate to assist the Magistrate in administering justice in the Magistrate’s Court, the Youth Court, and the Petty Debts Court in the Island of Jersey.
Applications are invited from persons of the highest integrity who have relevant knowledge and experience.
In accordance with the provisions of the Loi (1864) concernant la charge de Juge d’Instruction, applicants are required to be:-
- Jurats of the Royal Court of Jersey; or
- Advocates and Solicitors of the Royal Court of Jersey who have been in practice for at least 10 years or who have held office as a Crown Officer; or
- Those who have held judicial office in the Commonwealth; or
- Those who have been in practice for at least 10 years, either:
- at the Bar of England and Wales or as a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales;
- as a member of the Faculty of Advocates or as a Solicitor in Scotland;
- at the Bar of Northern Ireland or as a Solicitor of the Court of Judicature of Northern Ireland; or
- at the Bar of Guernsey.
In addition, applicants are required to have:
- extensive knowledge and experience of the law and its underlying principles;
- a drive to further the overriding objectives of the Criminal Procedure (Jersey) Law 2018 and the Petty Debts Court Rules 2018;
- a commitment to digital working.
